A lifestyle newborn Session I loved...

This session is a throwback to one of my first lifestyle newborn sessions, and it is still one of my favourites! We stayed in the same spot the whole time, which just goes to prove that you don't actually need a huge house and many different rooms for a great newborn session. All we had here was a bed with white bedding, in a room with a window, and that was it. Even with only using one spot the images turned out beautifully.


There are certainly challenges of shooting in a small room where some of the walls have other things on them, it means you are trying to avoid photographing those other things on the wall, so your image doesn't look cluttered. At certain points I was contorting myself into some strange position, or flattening myself against a wall, or jamming myself in a corner just to get the shot I wanted.


As well, there are certainly challenges to any session involving a newborn and a toddler, but with a few of my little tricks it can turn out really well! We stopped a couple of times for baby to nurse for a few minutes, and at times we used some bribes like a show playing on the phone to keep the toddler from completely getting off the bed. But all of it, was completely worth it when I saw the results.


The great thing about the lifestyle newborn session, or any family session, is that a bit of movement really just captures the moment more honestly. Which is to say, don't worry when your toddler won't sit still. The goal is to remember what life was like in those first weeks. At the time you think you will never forget it, and then after the newborn haze lifts, you realize it is actually very hard to remember those little moments and the way they looked. Having photos to look back on is everything and you will never regret having beautiful photos taken of your family, just as they are, in those early days.
